Even after the abuse has stopped, there are long term consequences of child maltreatment that can affect the child throughout the rest of their life. These can include, but are not limited to:

  • Dissociative disorders
  • Cognitive disorders
  • Eating disorders
  • Suicidal ideation, actions
  • Difficulty with authority figures
  • Sexual problems
  • Sleep disturbance
  • Feelings of isolation
